So I just took some time off. I was maybe going to do two or three years and it turned into five years. But certainly, I’d say it was the best thing I ever did. And now I come back to this whole thing really energized about it.

No press conference announcing a last film. I’d just steal away. Best way because, if by chance after two or three years something interesting comes up, I would not – like Sinatra – have to say: “Well, I’ve thought it over and decided to come back.”

I don’t think I ever went down that movie star path. I always enjoy taking a 90-degree turn from the last thing I did.

Any types of auditions will be posted in trade magazines.

Singing is an arduous business and it needs sacrifices.

If I had been a member of the academic establishment, I could have done other experiments.

I want to be an all round entertainer, I want to act, make films, make albums, do whatever I can.

I had done some TV movies that were great experiences but, no, I wasn’t looking to do a series.

I want to make smart television.

There are two types of courage involved with what I did. When it comes to picking up a rifle, millions of people are capable of doing that, as we see in Iraq or Vietnam. But when it comes to risking their careers, or risking being invited to lunch by the establishment, it turns out that’s remarkably rare.
