Exclusiveness in a garden is a mistake as great as it is in society.

There is no gardening without humility. Nature is constantly sending even its oldest scholars to the bottom of the class for some egregious blunder.

I don’t divide architecture, landscape and gardening; to me they are one.

I abhor a hoe. I am fond of flowers but not of dirt, and had rather buy them than cultivate them.

I also like to garden. I grow things, vegetables, flowers… I particularly like orchids. I raise orchids.

The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just on the body, but the soul.
