Hope in reality is the worst of all evils because it prolongs the torments of man.

I no longer have the terrible nightmares that I used to have. Mao had just died in 1976, and China began to open up. For the first time scholarships to go to the West to study were awarded on academic merit.

What’s important is promising something to the people, not actually keeping those promises. The people have always lived on hope alone.

You can be diagnosed and treated early. And there is hope for the future.

But what we call our despair is often only the painful eagerness of unfed hope.

We must learn to reawaken and keep ourselves awake, not by mechanical aid, but by an infinite expectation of the dawn.

The very least you can do in your life is to figure out what you hope for. And the most you can do is live inside that hope.

What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up Like a raisin in the sun?… Or does it explode?

I dwell in possibility.
