We were telling everybody we weren’t getting back together when we were in the studio actually recording. We wanted to try it on, to see how it would fit.

As long as the songs are strong, I think you can express yourself in any style and have it be soulful and have it be your own voice.

My role in the Mamas and Papas was basically just to sing.

Composing is like driving down a foggy road toward a house. Slowly you see more details of the house-the color of the slates and bricks, the shape of the windows. The notes are the bricks and the mortar of the house.

I’m always in that mode – whenever I have a little free time, I’m always recording songs, writing, whatever I gotta do. It’s like my job is my vacation.

I’ll give up this sort of touring madness certainly, but music-everything is based on music. No, I’ll never stop my music.

If it wasn’t good, I wouldn’t be going back out on tour.

We each have our own tour bus. We’ve never done that before.

Musicians always come off sounding a little bit pretentious, and a little bit… I don’t know, hypocritical, from what they do, talking about strong issues.

This was totally influenced by me and the direction that I am writing about and the stuff that I am writing about. There is just no way that you can be as intense as what I have been through in my life over a drum beat machine, sample, or loop; it’s just not going to happen.
